Practicing What You Preach

Practicing What You Preach

Overall rating 3.5

Griggs shows each characters interaction with God sometimes subtle but most times not. Though obvious it doesn't over power the story.

Ministry Message (4)
Vanessa Davis Griggs is the Shirley Caesar of Christian fiction as far as I'm concerned. The same way Caesar moves listeners by singing a sermon, Griggs offers a fully exegeted and researched story addressing the truth about divorce and the word of God.

Craft (3)
Griggs has master the basics of grammar and writing. While still a good read the story is a little slow in some spots due to lengthy dialogue interchanges between the characters. I would have liked a bit more insight into who each of the characters were.

Aesthetics (4)
This cover is beautiful, and feels great. I'd be remiss not to ascribe excellence where it belongs.

Left at the Altar

Left at the Altar: My Story of Hope and Healing for Every Woman Who Has Felt the Heartbreak of Rejection

Overall rating 4.75

Vertical Reach (5)
Kennedy draws readers into her relationship and view of God from cover to cover. She does a great job of offering the distinct difference between listening to God's leading and going her own way.

Ministry Message (5)
Learning to love and be in love with God and several other valuable nuggets are available and lovely to behold by the reader. I wasn't left at the altar in my marriage but several covenant relationships in my life I was left jilted this book speaks well to those who've been hurt and feel betrayed.

Craft (4)
Kennedy has a good command of the english language and does well to write in a persuasive manner without being too preachy.

Aesthetics (5)
Great cover. It puts one in the mind of a hurt woman running away from the altar. Typesetting and layout done exceptionally well.

Oliver does a good job of showing God's influence in the characters lives. While apparent they believe in him the ability to see how they view him isn't seamless.

Ministry Message (4)
Oliver offers many spiritual take away in this book. It is a sequel to her previous novel but
stands alone. The reader will see several spiritual principals in action throughout the story.

Craft (3)
Oliver writes well overall. The characters tend to ramble and could have been a bit more developed. The pace and story move well but did develop in a predictable manner.

Aesthetics (4)
This cover is eye catching. The typesetting and layout are done well.

Mom's The Word (Steeple Hill Cafe)

Griffith infuses each scene with how much the characters need, rely on or fear their connection with God. She brings each possible approach to the Father and ends the book with the most beneficial result. I love it!

Ministry Message (5)
This book offers a warm hug to mothers and women trying to live the perfect 21st century life. It offered better parenting advice than some ministries. I'd recommend every mom and mom to be read it.

Craft (5)
Griffith pens a book that answers and offers something exceptional in each component of the book. Great characters, beautiful believable dialogue, and plot twists I didn't see coming (ask my hubby hard it is to surprise me!)

Aesthetics (5)
Cover is perfect for the story. The internal layout and typesetting is superb.

Bishop's Daughter

The Bishop's Daughter

Overall rating 4

Vertical Reach: 4
Great internal direction and inclusion of God as character leading characters to desiring or growing in their relationship with Him.

Ministry Message:4
Fulfilling destiny and living life for yourself and not others. Doing the right thing. The liberty in full disclosure or telling the truth.

Craft:4
Male point of view sounded a bit feminine at time but otherwise great all around character development. Good pace. Nice plot. Over all well written.

Aesthetic:4
Good cover, great typesetting and layout.
